About the Role

The Head of Situational Analysis is an integral part of Latham’s Restructuring & Special Situations (R&SS) team. This unique new role will be responsible for identifying and assessing potential business opportunities as well as supporting pitch processes within the Restructuring & Special Situations practice by undertaking capital structure and business reviews of companies, while reviewing and analysing the terms of the capital and group structure of companies which may be in need of new capital, liability management, or restructuring. This role will be located in our London office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Preparing reports to clients and potential clients summarising the terms of such arrangements and analysing such companies’ ability to raise additional debt and other forms of capital
  • Presenting findings and investment opportunities with applicable partners in R&SS to a global range of investor and corporate clients
  • Brainstorming market themes, actively contributing ideas, and developing others
  • Working with the Tactical Opportunities team and partners in R&SS to help with identification of industry shifts and market dislocations that lead to new business and stronger relationships, including the potential to connect clients to deal origination ideas and differentiating Latham in its offering
  • Updating pipeline lists particularly on cross border issuers, focusing on maturity profiles, capital needs, and sector stress/shifts/impact based on current economic conditions and liaising with the rest of the Tactical Opportunities team in this regard

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of leveraged finance, capital markets, and restructuring transactional documentation including incurrence-based covenants across loan and high yield products; understanding of other notes and hybrid capital (e.g. convertible bond) products also ideal
  • Possess in-depth finance or restructuring industry knowledge including familiarity with the major players in the industry and an understanding of the commercial nuances around cross border transactions with loan and fund structures
  • Display strong teamwork and collaborative skills, with the ability to foster such skills

And have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent
  • Law firm experience as a qualified practicing attorney in restructuring and/or leveraged finance in a leading international law firm
  • Relevant client-side experience
  • Experience regularly engaging in transactional / deal matters advising clients or their institutions on capital structure requirements, utilizing necessary skillsets as part of the role
