About the Role

The OGC Coordinator – Compliance & Ethics is an integral part of Latham’s Office of the General Counsel. This role will be responsible for administering the regulatory and legal compliance procedures for the office, including those associated with bar registration (both international and local), mandatory annual ethics training, restricted securities list, anti-money laundering (AML), practising certificates, the local Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) rules, and broader compliance projects and their implementation, while coordinating the implementation of the policies and procedures of the firm and office regarding all aspects of regulatory and compliance standards, including bar admissions, practising certificate renewals, the restricted securities list and insider trading lists,  AML, and work permit regulations, among others. This role will be located in ourLondon office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of international and local bar compliance requirements, including admission, practising conditions, waive in, transfer, temporary stay, and renewal requirements; working with the firm’s global bar compliance team to ensure that all policies and procedures are implemented and enforced including conducting annual bar audits
  • Developing a competent understanding of bar compliance requirements for the firm's other jurisdictions; supporting the admission and renewal process for attorneys working in other offices who possess bar certification in the Coordinator’s local jurisdiction
  • Administering other aspects of attorney right-to-practice requirements, such as those covering Registered Foreign Lawyers, Foreign Legal Consultants, and Registered European Lawyers
  • Coordinating some aspects of the office’s AML compliance program; developing a thorough understanding of the local AML rules and requirements; supporting the work of the local anti-money laundering team
  • Developing a thorough knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations and the Solicitors’ Code of Conduct; responding to attorney and staff questions regarding the rules, the latest standards of enforcement, and related issues

  • Display the ability to work in a team environment with a customer-service focus
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills

And have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with legal qualification preferred
  • Administration experience, preferably in a regulatory or legal environment
